Reporting in on the Tough Love

I'm hesitant to write this for fear that we may jinx it, but things went relatively well this weekend.

Lauren woke up around 1:30 on Friday night and began crying. I waited 10 minutes to go in and there she was standing in the corner of her crib by the door, waiting for someone to come rescue her. I laid her down again and rubbed her tummy, and oh, that did not make her happy. She did not like this "tough love". The screaming got louder and she got angrier. I rubbed her tummy for about 10 minutes, then left. Needless to say, that did not make her happy either. She continued to cry and after another 15 minutes, Aaron went in and did the same. Within 10 minutes after that, the crying stopped, and she slept until 7:30 or so.

Saturday night was similar; she woke up around 12:15. I waited 10 minutes, went in and laid her back down, rubbing her tummy, but this time she stopped crying and fell back asleep. I left and a few minutes later she started crying again, but either it didn't last very long or Aaron & I slept through it because we never did go back in. She slept until about 8 then Sunday morning.

Last night she woke up around 12, crying, but the crying didn't even last 10 minutes. We didn't have to go in at all. she woke up around 5, and Aaron did go in and rub her tummy, but that was it. Of course, Alyssa didn't sleep well last night (she was awake three different times, for like 2 or 3 hours total), but we think we might have Lauren on the right track. We know we're not nearly in the clear with her yet, but we are making progress. In Aaron's words, "Why didn't we do this sooner?" My thoughts exactly, but we assumed that because she guzzled that bottle down, she needed to eat, guess she had us fooled...

To end the post we thought we'd include some pictures of the girls and Alyssa's "tough love" on Lauren. It's so cool to see how they already have a relationship at such an early age!

Hooray for the Menkes! Glad Alyssa is turning a page in her sleeping habits!!! As you say, you probably have a long way to go, yet progress is progress!
